LIFE TO THE FULL - CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF ARCHBISHOP ROMERO
CONGRATULATIONS
Premier’s ANZAC Award
It was wonderful to see Caitlin McKenzie presented with a framed certificate acknowledging her as a prizewinner for the Premier’s ANZAC Student Tour Competition. Caitlin and 9 other students from around Western Australia were presented with their awards by the Hon Mr Peter Collier MLC, Minister for Education. She will travel to Singapore for ten days in April and her tour includes attending the ANZAC Day ceremonies at the Kranji War Memorial in Singapore. I congratulate Caitlin for the outstanding achievement of being an award recipient for this prestigious and competitive award.
Ash Wednesday
We gathered in Houses and as an Early Learning Centre on Wednesday to mark Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. During Lent we are called to begin anew, to change what is preventing us from living life in all its fullness. During Lent we are reminded of the Gosplel call to ‘act justly’. One of the ways we act this out in the College community is with our support for Project Compassion. Money raised through Project Compassion contributes to development projects supported by Caritas.
Camino de Santiago
On Thursday the group of students and staff who will be embarking on the Camino de Santiago in April did a 12 kilometre hike by the Swan River. It was a good opportunity to test out hiking boots and daypacks and to spend some time together as a group. The students and staff leave on 4 April and will travel to Portugal and then to Spain to walk 120 kilometres of the Camino de Santiago.
Swimming Carnival
There was a great spirit at the Years 4 – 7 Swimming Carnival last Friday. It was pleasing to see the level of participation among the students and the House spirit as they cheered along their competitors. Thanks to the many parents who came along to support their children. A carnival takes a great deal of work to organise and I appreciate the work of Mr James Parsons, Health and Physical Education Coordinator, and his team in preparing for this event.
Enrolments
We are currently enrolling for Kindergarten 2018 and Year 7 2019. If you have a child you wish to enroll in either of these year levels, please collect an application pack from the College Office. Open Day will be held on Wednesday 22 March. Current parents are welcome to attend the tours so they can see the new facilities.
Staffing
Mr Peter Collins, Vice Principal, will be on Long Service Leave for the next five weeks. During this time Ms Anita O’Donahue and Mr Paul Murphy will take on some additional responsibilities. I wish Mr Collins all the best for a well-earned break.
